We were lucky enough to experience the adventure that is the high-speed rail from Beijing to Shanghai.
It is a very smart train, and the train stations at either end are so big one could easily mistake them for airports.

It was very comfortable inside and at this speed we reached Shanghai in only 5 hours.

Shanghai is a strikingly beautiful city, very modern but with colonial undertones.

Western brands merge with Chinese tradition- in this case with the year of the snake.

We sat down to warm up in a very small, cosy cafe off the main road.
