Nán pǔtuó sì (South Putuo Temple)

南普陀寺

Nanputuo. Another famous must-see of Xiamen.

Nanputuo temple is situated very near the Xiamen University campus and is accessible free of charge.
The temple is fronted by a lake with large lilly-pads.

Behind them a humble-looking path beckons...

...past benches, card tables, and pagodas each offering a new stunning viewpoint...

and at last out to a breathtaking view of the south of the island.

As I left the courtyards were buzzing with colour - although what the occasion was I didn't know
