Wénpíng lù (Wenping Road)
文平路
25.04.2013
Quite by accident, we discovered that there is a road that leads directly to the beach from our house (In the centre of Xiamen Island). The route it takes is such a scenic and serenely quiet one that it brings home the philosophical truth: Life is a journey, not a destination.
Leading between the dense botanical gardens that cover the mountainous areas on the south of the island, the road is lightly trafficked, making it almost unnervingly quiet for China.
Half-way down the route, the two lanes are separated by a middle feature for pedestrians. It is fenced off and leads down a valley formed by a little pebble stream. Beautiful flower trees abound in this mini oasis.
A big smile beams down on the road from the large Buddha face carved up into the mountains.
