Miào kāfēi tīng (The Temple Cafe)

庙咖啡厅

We came across a little area near the beach on the south side of the island that is a bustling hive of activity.
Narrow winding streets entice wanderers to explore further down the obstacle course of street food sellers and handmade crafts, past arty restaurants and shops- each more attractive than the last.

We felt very lucky to 'discover' this gem. Located at the end of a small alley, it presents a splendid stop-in-your-tracks sight at the entrance.

We had to go in and take a look, and ended up staying for dinner.
It is a shrine converted to a very charming cafe. The juxtapositions created by simple, modern cafe furnishings against the ornately gilded shrine are truly impressive.

Each table offers a unique vantage point, with a large table in the open courtyard as the centrepiece.

The menu is appropriately appealing, offering delicate salads and mediterranean snacks.

We really fell in love with the place, and the whole area in general, and decided it will be very well-frequented by us in the future.
