Húběi shěng bówùguǎn (Hubei Museum)
湖北省博物馆
03.04.2013
This is one of the most famous museums in China, with a rich collection of historic and cultural relics.
Many of the artefacts were recovered from the tomb of Yi (from something like 400BC).
The biggest set of bells I have ever seen dominate the exhibition: made of bronze they are the largest musical instrument ever discovered apparently. The museum rents the bells out for only the most special occasions and only a select few are able to play them.
I was fascinated to see the trail evolution has left over time, especially that homo-sapiens had such large teeth in those days: something like 4 times the size of ours now.
The beginnings of writing in China look similar to Egypt's hieroglyphics - very intriguing, as I am currently reading a book on the origins of the alphabet.
I was glad to see the exotic beauty of Ancient China that I fell in love with is not entirely fabricated myth.
Hairpins for married women's hair worm in a bun:
Porcelain cups so thin they are see-through:
We laughed at how history repeats itself, recognising many patterns on the artefacts as being on-trend today.
